Entry deadline - July 6, 2010

We encourage you to enter your quilt in the Cuyahoga County Bicentennial Quilt Show taking place August 9-15, 2010, at the Cuyahoga County Fairground sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Bicentennial Committee. Any quilt may be entered that has a history or inspiration from Cuyahoga County.  These quilts may be the Official Bicentennial Quilt, a version of that quilt or ANY OTHER quilt that tells a story of any part of Cuyahoga County.  Please share your quilts with other aspiring sewers and appreciative populace.  We want you to help us inspire future sewists!  You just might win a prize for your Folk Art version, or your Farm Life Quilt!  Plus, think how proud you will be when your family and neighbors see your quilt hanging in big show!  Entry deadline is July 6, 2010.

1 MILLION Pillowcase Challenge

We are sponsoring the 1 MILLION Pillowcase Challenge at Abigayles for the entire year of 2010.  Better Homes and Gardens magazine - American Patchwork & Quilting and their sponsors have offered a challenge to quilters across the nation.  The idea is to make and donate 1 million pillowcases to local charities.  Did you know that some foster children have to put their meager belongings in plastic garbage bags when they move from home to home?  Wouldn't you like to have a small part in helping a battered women's shelter provide clean linens for a family in need?  We have many needy charities in our own town.  Make the sun shine just a little brighter in someone's life!

Pillow Challenge for Cats and Dogs

for the Berea Animal Rescue

We love helping the homeless cats and dogs at the Berea Animal Rescue.   These animals are in need of pillows and any other items you can spare.  We found this idea on the internet (can't remember where) and wanted to share it.  We have made small, empty "pillowcases" and use them as liners in a clean wastebasket.  Then all of our clean fabric scraps and batting scraps are tossed into this basket.  When it is full, just sew the top closed and trim.  Then, bring these "pillows" to Abigayle's where we will deliver them to the Berea Animal Rescue.  They will be put in the cages to help comfort a frightened animal.  As you know - our pets love to lay on pillows and quilts.  Berea Animal Rescue is a no-kill shelter and unadopted animals can live there for the rest of their lives.  Since we can't personally adopt them all, we want to do what we can to help.  This is a no-cost way to help these innocent, adorable pets.
